NEWSTART-CC Program: Sunlight
By Dr. Delfin R. Hernandez Jr.
📷Sunlight- The sun is the established energy source ordained by God to sustain the cycle of life for all living organisms. Sunlight is supremely important for the body’s metabolism and hormonal balance. At least one hour of exposure to sunlight a day in the morning is necessary to health. Exposure of inside part of the house to sunlight is of paramount importance to health. Sunlight provides or boosts vitamin D, and kills various pathogenic microorganisms when exposed to sunlight.
Here are the prescribed health practices using sunlight:
1. Parents expose themselves to sunlight at most one hour per day in the morning or in the afternoon. Moderate sun exposure has health benefits for us, which includes stronger bones, better sleep, improved mood, and a healthier immune system
2. 📷They avoid over exposure to sunlight. Sunlight has ultraviolet radiation which can cause sunburn and skin cancer. Overexposure on it especially at noon has adverse health effects.
3. They allow their rooms exposed to sunlight. They have blinds or curtains that can cocoon them in darkness by night, but that they can easily pull back to bathe the room in sunlight when they wake. If they would have their homes sweet and inviting, make them bright with air and sunshine, remove heavy curtains, open the windows, throw back the blinds, and enjoy the rich sunlight, even if it be at the expense of the colors of carpets. Sunlight has an invigorating and healing effect. It kills germs suspended in the air.
4. They expose their clothing and other household materials to sunlight. Ellen G. White says “the confined air of unventilated rooms meets us with sickening odors of mildew and mold, and the impurities exhaled from its inmates.... The emanations from damp, moldy rooms and clothing are poisonous to the system.... If all would appreciate the sunshine, and expose every article of clothing to its drying, purifying rays, mildew and mold would be prevented.... This is the only way rooms can be kept from impurities.... Every room in our dwellings should be daily thrown open to the healthful rays of the sun, and the purifying air should be invited in. This will be a preventive of disease.”
5. Those who are sick, moderate exposure to sunlight really helps. Ellen G. White says “To the sick it is worth more than silver and gold to lie in the sunshine or in the shade of the trees.”
