Teachers and nurses to get bigger increase in the next pay hike

A budget of P110 billion will be allocated for the pay hike of the gov't workers which will be distributed in three consecutive years, a legislator said. This will include a higher portion for the teachers and nurses as promised by the President.

Albay Representative Jose Ma. S. Salceda said, “It will favor SG (Salary Grades) 1-17 with higher increases while those in SG 18-33 including the President and Congressmen will receive lower increases."

He also noted that in the 2020 budget, P32 billion is allocated for the said pay hike while P4 billion will be allocated for miscellaneous benefits.

“The adjustments will preserve and somewhat improve the purchasing power of civil servants, considering the consumer price inflation of 3.4 percent over the past three years and forward estimates of two to four percent per year over the next three years,” Salcedo added.

With this scheme, a 15% increase in salary will be applied from 2020 to 2022 or 5% annually. Thus, teachers and nurses having lower salary grades from SG 11 will surely be benefited by this increase.
