"Praktikal lang na itaas sa SG (Salary Grade) 19 ang sahod ng entry-level government teachers upang mahikayat ang mga pinakamahuhusay sa atin na pasukin ang mundo ng akademya. Ngunit batid kong hindi ito kakayaning ipatupad nang biglaan. Kailangang i-phase-in ito alinsunod sa irerekomenda ng DepEd at CHED,” - Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas.
As the 18th congress formally opens, Rep. Alfred Vargas along with other congressmen pushed for the increase of salary of public school teachers to P42,259 for the entry-level item. This is basically to encourage our fellow teachers to stay in the country and strive more to deliver the best education that our children deserve.
In the Senate, Sen. Sonny Angara, Joel Villanueva, and Pia Cayetano have the same consensus with regards to their appeal to increase the entry-level salary of teachers to Salary Grade 19.
They all understand that this will require a tremendous amount of national budget for it to be realized. The reason why some of them suggested to give it by portion so it won't hurt much when it comes to massive implementation.
