The President has not forgotten his promise to double the teachers' salary. This has been reassured by Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo on his recent Press Briefing.
President Duterte has already mentioned on his last SONA that teachers will receive the said increase a little bit higher than before. "I believe that it is now time for Congress to approve a new version of the Salary Standardization Law. Ngayon na. To the teachers, who toil and work tirelessly to educate our young, kasali na po dito iyong hinihingi niyo. Hindi naman masyadong malaki pero it will ride you over," he said.
Panelo, however explained, "Ibig sabihin ni Presidente, habang wala pa yung budget ‘yan muna. Pupunta tayo doon. Hindi ba, ilang beses niya na ring sinabi yun, eh. Hinahanapan nga ng source. Pati nga DBM naghahanap din ng budget eh."
He added that the passage of a new salary standardization law is a temporary solution while the government is finding means to deliver the "double the salary" promise of the president to the teachers.
