Department of Finance secretary, Carlos Dominguez III, said that the recent claim of President Duterte towards the salary increase of government employees, especially teachers and nurses, can be done as far as the budget is concerned.
“We normally wait three to four years before moving to Salary Standardization Law V. However, the President decided to propose the SSL. We have done the numbers … and the government can afford it,” Dominguez said.
It is remembered on President's SONA that he continued to talk about the fulfillment of his salary increase promise to the teachers.
"I therefore believe that it is now time for the congress to approve in your version the Salary Standardization Law. Ngayon na." - President Duterte on his recent SONA.
"And to the teachers who toil and work tirelessly to educate our young, kasali na po dito yung hinihingi ninyo. Hindi naman masyado malaki pero it will tide you over during this hard time. A little bit bigger than before." he added.
