Duterte signed the 2020 budget including teachers' salary increase

President Rodrigo R. Duterte finally signed the P4.1 trillion national budget for 2020 on January 6, 2020. This authorizes the release of funds for new and continuing government projects and programs as approved by Congress.

This national budget also includes a salary increase for public school teachers which shall be given in tranches. However, the public has to wait for the approval and signature of the president to the final salary standardization law V which will take effect this January 2020. Several versions of the SSL V have been viral these past few months, it is now up to the president as to which SSL V he will favor on for our dear public school teachers.

From Undersecretary Anne Sevilla:

“The signed 2020 budget bill or GAA 2020, RA 11465, already includes funding for salary increase for 2020, effective January 2020. The details of the salary increase will be specified in the SSL5. Let’s wait for the approved SSL5 to find out specific increments per position/salary grade level, which will be retroactive (computed since Jan 2020).”
