President Rodrigo Duterte made an assurance that his promise of a salary increase for teachers will be realized this year.
On his arrival from his trip from Russia, he was asked regarding the salary increase for teachers as he has doubled the salary for the soldiers and the police.
The President replied, "It's coming, ang increases nila. But hindi double, mas marami ang teacher, my God. Pero nandiyan po, darating 'yan this year."
On a follow-up question, he was asked on the rate of the said increase and he said, "The last time they were discussing about 35 (P35,000) but it could be more."
As to the timeline, the President did not give an exact schedule for its implementation. Instead, he continued, "If I give you the timeline tapos I could not make it to the deadline I have to explain more than what is expected, mas mabuti talaga nyan kung andiyan na sinasabi ko andyan yan. Basta sinabi ko may increase this year, that I'm very sure of."
With this assurance from the President himself, public school teachers can be at ease that their call for the increase is taking care of by the President and his team. And if the President will stand by his words, teachers will be very thankful this year.
