DepEd Stressed the Responsible Use of Cellphones for Students

DepEd USEC. Annalyn Sevilla pointed out the DepEd Order No. 83, s. 2003 or the "Prohibiting Students of Elementary and Secondary Schools from Using Cellular Phones and Pagers During Class Hours". And that the Department of Education is constantly reminding all the teachers and parents to show and explain to the students the proper and responsible way of using these modern devices like cellphones.

Usec. Sevilla said that "We also respect the discretion of the parents. I myself is a parent. I know when he or she can be responsible about owning a cellphone."

She also added that all the schools should discuss the said DepEd Order with the school parents before implementing it. In this manner, parents will be fully responsible for the misuse of these gadgets and gather enough to support from them on its thorough implementation.

"There is a means or ways on how we can properly communicate this order depending on the school as long as we have an agreement with their parent-teacher associations," Usec. Sevilla said.
