DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio responded on the TV news interview with regards to the issue of segregating boys and girls in class to address and minimize the number of cases of teenage pregnancy. This proposal has been recently made by the national youth commission.
Usec. San Antonio explains that the department is focused on implementing inclusive education and that boys and girls should not be separated.
"In the Department of Education, we really pursue inclusive education. We want the youngsters to actually learn in a situation where it is reflective of what the real world is and in the real world we don't separate boys and girls," Usec. San Antonio said.
"As to the issue of class projects being done at home and the opportunities for the youngsters to explore things...it could be addressed by proper parenting mechanisms," he added.
The DepEd official also stressed that projects should be done in schools or in places where there would be no opportunities for the youngsters to try things that should not be tried.
